Windows access fine but Ubuntu issues when accessing HDA

Postby thecourtenayboy » Fri Mar 16, 2012 12:34 pm

Hi all

I've had my Amahi server up and running fine for a while now and I can access shares using Windows 7 without any issues.

However, I've recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop but I'm having trouble accessing my HDA shares in the same way as I do using Windows.

In Ubuntu I am able to access the files but I'm not able to write to them as I don't have permission. Now the thing is that I am never prompted for a login/password when using Ubuntu to access the shares, so I guess I am logging in as guest. Also, I can't browse the network, I can only access the share by selecting Go > Location and then entering the manual IP address of the HDA.

I can't work out what I'm doing wrong. Do I need to change my domain/workgroup? How can I login with a different username/password?

My HDA is installed on Fedora 14.

As you can probably tell, I'm a beginner when it comes to Linux so please be kind!

:)

Check out this page in the wiki. Accessing things with Linux is different than Windows. You will find a lot of good info in the wiki.

I've followed the wiki and I can get the shares to appear but once I reboot they are gone.

I tried the permanent mount option but for some reason it doesn't work. I didn't get any errors and followed the wiki exactly.

Ok, I've managed to work around this issue by first mounting each of the shares on the HDA and then bookmarking them. Now they appear in my bookmarks after every reboot. Not quite as nice as having them displayed within my Ubuntu folders for Music, Pictures, etc but at least I can access everything now.

Looks like I jumped the gun. Still can't write to the folders as I don't have permission. However from within Ubuntu I used File > Connect to Server

I seletec Windows Share and entered the correct login details, so in theory I should be logged in with the correct permissions. Any ideas?

Did you go back over the wiki guidance to make sure you did not miss anything. I have not heard of anyone having problems with writing to shares from Ubuntu.
