Some hlep with Drive Numbers.

Postby kdizzle13 » Sat Feb 12, 2011 10:54 am

I have been switching drives around because I have some errors in my setup.

Now I have drives numbers starting at 13 and so on for the same drives I used earlier.

I would like to simply number my drives in this order
/ -These are two partitions on my ide master
/var -These are two partitions on my ide master
/var/hda/files/drives/drive 2 -IDE secondary
/var/hda/files/drives/drive 3 - sata
/var/hda/files/drives/drive 4 -sata
/var/hda/files/drives/drive 5 USB drive
/var/hda/files/drives/drive 6 USB drive

Where do I set the drive names and make sure they all mount at boot? I have read the "Adding hard drives" wiki so I know I have to mount them in the fstab but I want to get their drives names finalized to the above order so I can mount them locally.

thank you

I think the drive numbers are straight from your motherboards drive controller. On my HDA, my Greyhole shares are on drive4 and drive5, which just happen to correspond with my Sata Channel 4 and 5.

Which leads me to a follow on question... what would happen if we move a drive to another port on the board?
Sorry, not intending to thread hijack, I think the question is related to kdizzle13 original post.

EDIT: Swapping the drives around on the sata ports made no difference to the Drive numbers.
