Removing directory from greyhole pool on Amahi 7 questions.

Postby PatrickDickey » Sun Apr 06, 2014 7:37 am

Hi everyone,

I've got a storage location that I created and added to my greyhole pool (recordings for mythtv), but I'm finding that it won't work. So, I want to keep the storage directory but remove it from the pool. Before I start doing it, I just want to make sure of a few things.

Is it just a matter of removing the entries for that directory from the greyhole.conf file, and removing any trace of the greyhole code for that directory from the smb.conf files?
Will greyhole automatically put the files back into the original location (/var/hda/files/recordings), or will I have to manually move them? I don't want it to delete everything that's in the pool.
And my usual question: Is anyone working on integrating this back into the webpage (setup for storage), so we don't have to get our hands dirty anymore? Amahi 7 has been out long enough, that it should be part of the setup (as it is in Amahi 6.x).

Specifically, would I delete this line from my /etc/greyhole.conf file

Code: Select all

num_copies[Recordings] = 2
It appears that there isn't anything in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file, to make the directories available to greyhole. So, I'm guessing the one line from my /etc/greyhole.conf file is all I need to remove? Or do I need to run some type of script, to make sure that it moves the files back into the actual /var/hda/files/recordings directory (as they're all symlinks pointing to some location inside of the greyhole pool)?

Have a great day.:)
Patrick.

We would appreciate if users interested in the status watch the Bug tracker rather than repeatedly asking the question. It will not speed up the release.

We have been working other priorities, but this one is almost complete. Carlos has been diligently working this over the last few weeks. While I cannot say when it will be ready, it is not far off.

Why is using command line referred to as "getting our hands dirty"? There is and will always be some command line required for using an Amahi server. I don't see it as a big deal myself.

We will announce when it's ready for consumption and most likely it will be implemented as a plug-in from a web app. The intent is to keep it separate from the platform since it's not a core component. It will integrate with the dashboard, but also can be removed by uninstalling the app as well.

We hope to keep the platform more generic with capabilities such as SSH, DHCP, DNS, Samba, etc. Using the new plug-in technology allows us the flexibility to add and remove as it best fits Amahi and users. Not everyone wants or can use Greyhole or some of the other technologies, so best to keep them separated.

As we move forward, I hope you understand.
