Hi I've been searching around in the forum but cannot find this specific scenario.
I want to set up amahi with greyhole as a crashplan destination only. I don't want to back up shares as there will be none on the server. I just need it for the drive pooling.
Are there any problems in doing this?

Greyhole pool as Crashplan destination
Re: Greyhole pool as Crashplan destination
long story short: Don't do it.
Crashplan creates too many read/write cycles for the samba/greyhole combo to be comfortable with.
Save your crashplan backups to a static volume... eg: lvm, zfs, ext4, raid, etc.
I tell you this from experience (re: broken storage pool)

Would frozen directories not solve that issue? I've ran Crashplan for a while. Just haven't got round to reinstalling it since my fresh ubuntu install.
