Switching to a bigger drive in the pool.

Postby PatrickDickey » Sat Oct 19, 2013 11:36 pm

I've got a drive that's failing (at least it's failing in the server). I've purchased a larger drive (3TB instead of the 2TB that I currently have). Since the server can't mount the drive, I was able to use greyhole --going= to get rid of it from the pool.

My questions are these:

Can I plug both the old drive and new drive into another computer, and use dd to copy the old drives partition/data to the new one, and then plug the new one into the server? I know I'd have to follow the re-adding a drive to greyhole wiki guide (and/or the adding a hard drive to the storage pool wiki guide also).

Should I just plug the new drive into the server, and let greyhole do it's thing? (This is instead of doing the first option, or if the old drive won't allow me to read from it).

Thanks, and have a great day.:)
Patrick.

I would try just adding the drive and let Greyhole do it's thing. Unless you are missing any files that are on the old drive from your shares, no need to copy from one to the other.
