Greyhole on Amahi 7

Postby Strangename » Mon Aug 05, 2013 11:59 am

** ADMIN UPDATE. The latest info on this is in the Amahi 7 Greyhole page.**

Hi,

So we have a nice new version of Amahi but I can't find any reference on how to setup Greyhole in v7. Is there a new section in the Wiki that I have failed to find or are there simply zero instructions/guides at the moment?

Currently there is no guidance. You have to run a script to create the database, then all the setup is manual via the /etc/greyhole.conf file.

The script is listed in the wiki:
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Greyho ... e_to_MySQL

We are working on a new UI that will take care of all this, but did not finish it before the release. Until then, no UI and all manual configuration. Sorry.

The package hda-greyhole (v 0.9.31) is installed -- that's all. What needs to be done will be documented soon on the wiki, i hope (can someone take this and put it in the wiki please), however, off the top of my head:

- create the database with

Code: Select all

hda-create-db-and-user greyhole
- initialize/destroy the db with the schema

Code: Select all

mysql -u greyhole -pgreyhole greyhole < /usr/share/greyhole/schema-mysql.sql
- configure /etc/greyhole.conf appropriately (that is up to your configuration)
- enable permanently and start the greyhole service:

Code: Select all

systemctl enable greyhole.service systemctl start greyhole.service

Ahh, thanks to the both of you. Not a problem about manual config but just wasn't sure what had/had not been done. When it comes to my data I get a little jittery and don't want to mess around with it.

hi stragename,

I see you are apperently familiar with the manual install.

can you please explain here what needs to be done.

I want to enable greyhole and move my 570GB and 1TB drive from my AMAHI6 HDA to my new AMAHI7 HDA, but dont want to lose my data.

help would be very welcome

I updated the above post of mine with more details of what should be done.

However, an important part is: configure greyhole.conf appropriately

maybe you can check from the greyhole.conf configuration in your previous amahi machine.

thanks,

checked it and I can use that info, but it says this at the top:
# This file is automatically generated by Amahi on Sun Dec 30 23:37:11 +0100 2012
# Any manual changes WILL BE OVERWRITTEN!
# Set the defaults (carefully) in /var/hda/platform/html/config/greyhole.yml
so, what file should I change on my new HDA? and is there a risk of losing data in the future?

That file is not modified in Amahi 7. The warning was for Amahi 6 with the integrated UI. You should be ok to make changes and they will not be overwritten by Amahi.

super, will try to make the swap 2night.

one last question for you guys.

The 750GB drive on my AMAHI6 system also holds the SWAP, HOME and OS partition. after mounting the drive in the new AMAHI7 system and adding them to greyhole. I would like to remove these three partitions and just add the space to the greyhole pool.

what is the best way to move forward on that? turn it into one big partition and add that space to the greyhole pool? or can I resize the storage partition that is already on there?

You should be able to resize with gParted or something similar tool. Might have to use a Live CD, but I think it will allow you to merge the partitions.
