greyhole and 3tb drives

Postby rcrh » Thu Nov 10, 2011 6:51 am

I've added a 3tb USB drive to my server. I've added to my storage pool and have issued a balance command. However, after running overnight nothing has been moved to the new drive.

Is there a "trick" to using 3tb drives with Amahi?

Thanks in advance.

Check out the wiki. It might be helpful.

This is exactly what I followed to get the drive added. I then went to the SHARES tab on the web interface and added the drive to my pool.

Do I have to do anything after that?

I would not think so. From command line, you can do greyhole -f and see if that yields any results. Check the /var/log/greyhole.log for activity.

I'll put off running an fsck as one ran last night and it took 4 1/2 hours. But I looked at the log and no errors were reported.

While in the log I looked at the balancing I tried to run this morning and found the following excerpt:

Nov 10 08:44:48 7 balance: Sticky file is already where it should be. Skipping.

The sixth line reports the new drive (drive14) as having negative space available. That can't be right, can it?

Any other ideas from this info?

Thanks in advance,
Richard

That is odd. I presumed you formatted the drive and it reported usable space. Maybe do a df -h and see what it reports.

/dev/sdd1 2.8T 201M 2.6T 1% /var/hda/files/drives/drive14

The last one is the drive in question 2.8T 201M used.

Still appreciating the help.

Any other thoughts, guesses, shots-in-the-dark? I'm quite anxious to resolve this to eliminate the low space condition on my other drives. Each of the other drives have under 200gig of available storage and my total space is only about 800gig. Adding 3tb would really help.

Thanks yet again for your help.
Richard.

What about splitting he 3TB drive into 2 partitions. Them mount each separately. Should not have to do that, but thought it was worth mentioning.

I'll give that a try. I guess it won't matter once the separate partitions are added back to the storage pool.

Thanks.
