NTFS disk unusable in Greyhole pool?

Postby Vertigo500 » Thu Mar 24, 2011 2:55 am

I am a novice in Linux, Amahi and Greyhole. I have used over 40 hours reading in the forums, documentation and other tings, and i have tested this setup for about two weeks. I feel i have above average computer knowlege and i have put a lot of effort into this, to get it up and running.

After all this i read a post, about ntfs disks should not be a part of the Greyhole pool, something about symlinks(dunno what that is, and frankly i dont want to). I am now very worried, as i have a 1,5Tb ntfs disk as part of the pool. The reason it is NTFS, is because i have a lot of data on it, and limited disk space for now. So i have moved data from it to the share, and at the same time it is part of the gh pool.

If that is the case, and it is as serious as i am now thinking, should there not be a warning about it?

Or is it not that dangerous, and my data is not in danger, and i can just wait for an update in the future to fix it?

As long as you tested your current setup, and it works as expected, you'll be fine.

Tests you should do:
- You can write, rename, delete files on a greyhole share
- After writing (new file or modified file), check that closing the file and re-opening it, it contains the new data.
- Wait until Greyhole has processed the new or modified file (tail -f /var/log/greyhole; look for Sleeping...), then re-check that the file is as it should.

There is an issue in the Amahi tracker already, about not allowing user to select NTFS partitions for the storage pool.
