i'm quite new to linux but i nthe last few days i installed fedora quie some times.
using fedora 14 and amahi
i have one 160gb disk with:
- /boot 200mb
- / 5gb
- /var/hda/files 40gb
- one partition with 40gb and other 60gb made for test

i originally had /home on another partition and i moved it to /. as the / partition was small i mapped the /var/hda/files to a 40gig partition so i have the landing zone on a big enough partition. however in the process i managed to lose the /var/hda/files original content. i checked if greyhole says anything and i saw in the log the following:

i created the /var/hda/files/docments, movies etc. however the eror keeps appearing and greyhole returns no status and also hda-diskmount is not recognized. any ideas?

using the web interface i deleted all shares except 2.

Go in the Shares > Storage Pool page in the Amahi Dashboard, and re-select one or more partitions.
If you already had some selected, un-select them, then re-select them.

i asume you were talking about selecting/deselecting partitions for inclusion in the pool.

Well, Greyhole can't run without any partitions selected in the storage pool page.
Select at least one!
Once that's done, if you still have issues, repeat troubleshooting steps 4-7

i included the /var/hda/files partition in the pool and things stated working again. thanks for the quick responses.

i see that in http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Fedora_14_install_guide guide it suggests to have the following partition schema:

• /boot 0.5gb
• / 20gb
• /home 10gb
• /var/hda/files for the rest

questions:
1. what is the advantage of having separate partitions for / and /home?
2. i was thinking to have a 10gb / partition and no /home partition. i would keep the /boot, /var/hda/files on separate partitions. i saw that fedora does not use much space and it seems wasteful to use 30gb for / and /home. is that a good idea?
3. i see that it suggests to include in the greyhole pool the /var/hda/files. i know that this is the default landing zone for all shares. inlcuding the / partition to the pool could cause issues. wouldn't inlcuding /var/hda/files to the pool cause same issues. what is our take on this?
4. i see that the suggested size for /swap is 2x ram. i'm using 2gb or ram so that would be 4gb of swap. i see that fedora is using very little ram. would a 2gb swap be more than enough?

3. There is no problem using a partition that is in the storage pool as the landing zone.
In fact, this will speed up some file operations, since when Greyhole will want to move new files from the LZ into the pool, if it chooses the partition where the LZ is, it will just rename (move) the file into the pool from the LZ, instead of copying it like it needs to do when the LZ and target drive are separate partitions.
