Hi. I am new to Amahi and the forum. I helped a friend setup an Amahi server at home and he loves it. I too am going to set one up and get rid of my Windows Home Server HPEX470. That said, I have some questions:(I am a linux noob.)

1 - I have a machine with a 320gb drive. I plan to install Amahi on that drive. Then I would like to add 2 more 1.5tb drives to the server for my shares. How can I set it up so that the 320gb drive just holds Fedora and the 2 1.5tb drives hole my shares (data). That way, if my drive running Linux dies, I can just reinstall on a replacement.
2 - I am assuming if I let that 320gb drive hole my shares(data), when it fills up I would be left with lots of extra space on the other 2 1.5tb drives that will be unusable for greyhole protection. Am I mistaken?

Install only your 320GB HDD in the computer, then install Amahi normally.
Once that's done, add the other 2 drives in the computer, and follow the installation procedure for new hard drives:

Once you're done, enable Advanced Settings, then go in Setup > Storage Pool, and select only your two 1.5TB drives.

You will now have 3TB of total space for your shares.

Select which shares should 'Uses pool' in the Setup > Shares page (I'd guess you'll want to select that option for all your shares).

This will make your 320GB drive the 'landing zone' for new files that you copy into your shares, but Greyhole will get to work once that happen, and it will move the actual files to either (or both) your 1.5TB drives.

That way, your 320GB drive should never get filled, and will only be used as temporary space for new files.

My friend's server has a similar setup. Or I should say, will have... Currently he has a 320gb that Linux is installed on and a 250gb for the pool. If he adds 2 larger drives like mine, how can he remove the smaller 250gb? I'm assuming he adds the 2 larger drives, enables them for the pool and lets greyhole run over night. Then remove the smaller drive from the pool and take it out of the computer. Is that correct?

Greyhole has a --going command line parameter, that should be used to remove drives: This will move all the files that are only on that drive onto other drives, then launch a check that will recreate extra file copies as needed. The drive still needs to be removed from the pool once that's completed, using the Setup > Storage Pool page.
