where to copy already existing files to /var/hda/files/????

Postby wardr » Sun Mar 31, 2013 12:04 am

I have exhausted the wiki and sorting through these discussions. Nothing seems to answer my very simple question and the more I look around the more confused I get. Here is where I am at. I just need to know what to do with my current files.

mount -l
/dev/sda1/ on / type ext4 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
**more unimportant mounts like proc, kernel, yadda yadda**
/dev/sdb1 on var/hda/files/drives/drive1 type ext4 (rw)
/dev/sdc1 on var/hda/files/drives/drive2 type ext4 (rw)
/dev/sdd1 on var/hda/files/drives/drive3 type ext4 (rw)

ls /mnt -la
total 0

ls /var/hda/files
Backups Docs Downloads drives Movies owncloud Pictures Public
(every one of those folders are empty with the exception of "drives" which contains my 3 hard drives and looks like this:

ls /var/hda/files/drives
drive1 drive2 drive3
(drive 1 is a 2TB hard drive, drive2 is a 2TB hard drive, drive3 is a 1 TB external USB hard drive)

drive2 and drive3 are empty. I have consolidated all of my precious memories pictures, videos, documents, you name it from my windows shares into drive1. The folder strure on drive1 is broken down into
drive1/Movies
drive1/Videos
drive1/Pictures
drive1/Downloads
drive1/Music
drive1/workingfiles

you get the picture. Pictures is roughly 1 TB, Music is roughly 100GB, Movies and Videos roughly 500GB, eveyrthing else taking up about 100GB and the drive has roughly 300GB empty space remaining.

I have set-up the shares I want on the "Shares" section of the http://hda server. Mostly I just named the same folders that I already have in my drive1 folder and if they didn't exist from the default installation (such as Downloads), I just made them myself.

Note:
I have checked off "Use Pool" for each share indicated above in the "Shares" section of the hda web utility.
I have checked off each drive (drive1, drive2, and drive3) in the "Storage Poole" section of the hda web utility.

which leads me to where I am at this stage ........... NOW WHAT? Or more specifically:
What is required of me at this point, which files get copied to where and what files do I delete, if any.

what I THINK I have to do but it is unclear:
copy the files located at:
/var/hda/files/drives/drive1/Pictures --> /var/hda/files/Pictures ?
/var/hda/files/drives/drive1/Music --> /var/hda/files/Music ?
... and so on

until I am done.... is this correct? And if so, what happens to the files located at /var/hda/files/drives/drive1?
Do I manually delete them?
Does grayhole delete them?
Do they simply not get deleted?

furthermore, where is my landing zone? And how do I change it to one of my three hard drives used in the pool?

Thanks for your help-

You have to configure each share for number of copies. Then once you do that Greyhole will automatically start copying files to the other drives.

If you want to force it to start immediately, you can do as root user:

Code: Select all

greyhole -f
The two drives that will be used by Greyhole require no action by you, other than being formated, mounted, and included in the storage pool. Greyhole will do the rest. You always want to access your shares via the drive1 path, but copies will be updated on the Greyhole drives when changed.

If you mess with files locally on the HDA, then it's a bit different. For that read the wiki guidance on mount_shares_locally.

Hope I understood your question and this helps.
