My apologies if this is the wrong section but it's a close to a fit as I can see.
Background... My WHS was going out the door, 2 hard drives failing. I managed to install Amahi with a fancy new 3TB and pulled all data over to it. Then shipped the failing drives out for warrantee. New drives come back.
Now before I add any more drives to enable duplication (at this point I have a smaller os and the larger 3TB), my wife says, "hey I'm missing a substantial amount of files" I do a little reading and find greyhole could be the issue. So I think I'm a bit upset but follow everyone here and it'll be ok. Take the small data loss on the chin and keep looking up.
Now on a reboot of the system, I kept loosing my 3TB though and the boot would fail. Unfortunately I don't remember exactly what the error was but the first time it happened I commented the drive out in the fstab and once it was up and running I uncommented, rebooted and tada. Don't ask me where I saw it, but I read someplace on here that a reinstall might be the way to go to resolve that issue, so I shut down added the new drives.
The reinstall went fine, but when it came to the 3TB it said it needed to reinitialize (LVM) but there would be complete data loss. There was no cancel or backing out available so being the windows trained pup I am I said to ignore (meaning not to reinitialize) thinking I could sort it out after the reinstall.
So system comes back up, but 3TB with all data does not show up--anyplace. The drive shows up in BIOS, but not in the os. I admit, I used a Linux Mint LIVE CD and installed LVM2 but that didn't work either. I need any suggestions at all. I'm truly at my wits end and I know it's my own fault. I was in unfamiliar ground and took a risk of not having my data in at least 2 places and now I'm desperate.
I did a little reading only to find most people said oh it's easy just rely on your etc/lvm/backup. That's great if your not an idiot who reformatted and reinstalled over the top of it.
Any one have any ideas on how to pull my data that I know is still there on a good drive. Again I know this thread isn't a perfect fit but it's as close as anything else.

Re: OMG... PLEASE HELP!!!
Not sure if this will help, but thought I would offer it. There are some issues with Fedora and 3TB drives. There is some info here about it.

Hope this helps you.

Re: OMG... PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks for the fast response. I quickly looked over that, which seems to be about adding the drive but I'm going to go over it a little slower and get what I can from it. The better I understand the basics the better chance of recovering.
I know I read someplace else during my research, the scary part is knowing the drive is good and the data is good, but no way to get to it. It's like dying of thirst on a life raft in the ocean.
BTW: clarifying my previous post, the LVM2 I installed was in the live session only.

Update for all who may read...
My problem was a corrupt Primary GPT table. My distress came from the fact I'm not very familiar with GPT or LVM2.
Now on to where some of my data disappeared to in Greyhole.
