Greyhole and drive space

Postby koups » Mon Feb 07, 2011 2:01 am

HI, I am a new user of Amahi. I have installed the operating system on a drive that is 150GB (HDD1). I am not quite sure where the shared folders are stored but I guess they are on the same drive with the O/S. I don't think that 150GB is enough space for all my data. I have another drive that is 2TB (HDD2) that I want to use for my data and then another 2TB (HDD3) drive I want to use for disk pooling.

- What happens if I try to put more data on the shares than the drive allows?
- Is it possible to move the shares to another drive (HDD2) then use greyhole to replicate the files on the third drive (HDD3)?

Also, is it possible to have a similar system to shadow copies on WHS where the system keeps a few copies of files in case you want to roll back.

Sorry for all the questions and thank you for a great product!

Hi Koups,

Your shares are in /var/hda/files/share

But if you are using Greyhole it is best not to add or remove stuff through there directly. Use a PC on the network, or mount the folders on your HDA and then add/remove/copy files

For adding additional drives and using them for data storage, read up on this Wiki page, it tellas you how to add them to your greyhole pool as well

You'll receive an error telling you the drive is full and you can't copy any more.
Also, a system drive that is full will create more problems... MySQL won't be happy, your Amahi Dashboard might not be happy either...

You can include both drives in the pool, and for each share, decide if you want it to keep multiple copies (one per drive), or not.
Also, is it possible to have a similar system to shadow copies on WHS where the system keeps a few copies of files in case you want to roll back.
No. But GH does keep one copy of deleted files in the attic (Recycle Bin), until you empty it.
The attic also contain 1 old copy of modified files for which you specified you wanted multiple copies.
