Hello!

We are looking for a few brave souls for some testing to be done with a new install method called "Automated Install."

It's done (in Fedora) with something called kickstart. Maybe different in Ubuntu (maybe not).

We're looking for brave individuals who would like to test this method and report back!

Big thanks to robbie480 for getting most of the work done to prototype this!! Awesome job!

Automated install documentation

IT WILL TAKE OVER THE WHOLE DRIVE automatically, so please be careful. Needless to say, do not use in production!

Make a new HDA profile to test it.

The idea is that with the new profile install code, you simply boot the DVD, when the first F10 screen comes up press TAB and enter at the end of the line:

ks=http://www.amahi.org/install/YOURCODE

(obviously replace your code).

We have a prelim screenshot of how the automated configuration is looking:

I'm game. I've had Amahi running DHCP for only three weeks, five wired, and two wireless PC's. Stable and as fast as the Router. I have music, and files to back up, but that's all.

Is this Fedora 10, or 11? I'll do it if I meet the spec'x...

hmmm have to take a look at that ks file

you know you can create a partition setup as well in a kickstart, cpg?

oh, btw: Ubuntu (Debian) is different. it works with a preseeding file (usually used with fai - fully automated installer) and from what I've read this is perl-based. Fedora uses a different setup (more like an answer file) but the installer natively supports python.

I think something is going wrong. The server shows a message: "running post-install scripts". Nothing is happened in the last 30 minutes. I can move the cursor... All 578 packages are downloaded. Any suggestions i'll leave the server on.

I think it didn't reboot after install (thats also noted in the wiki) I'll reseted the server and it's working. Nice! When i'am finished my painting walls job i'am going to look further.

It is not clear WHEN restart.
After waiting more than one hour, I restart and - it is working.
One another advantage of this type of installation: It can be done even in text mode ... as on my ASUS M7N78-EMH motherboard with nVidia chipset not supported in standard Fedora 10 installation.
Now I am trying ks installation within VMware workstation.

I've found the hda-install log on my system.
