Amahi 7 netboot solved!

Postby damonq » Wed Aug 07, 2013 6:34 pm

Netboot install is broken

Post Install Problems
1. default install is to /var/lib/tftpboot but directory is empty
2. /etc/dnsmasq.d/ has no amahi-pxe.conf
3. /etc/xinetd.d/tftp disabled =yes #should be no

Fixes
1. Copy previous netboot files to /var/lib/tftpboot/
2. /etc/xinet.d/tftp change line disabled =no
3. Create amahi-pxe.conf in /etc/dnsmasq.d/

Contents

Code: Select all

dhcp-boot=pxelinux.0,hda,192.168.X.XX #insert hda IP enable-tftp tftp-root=/var/lib/tftpboot

Probably is broke. I don't believe we have started working on it. It is an RPM package, so takes a little more time to fix.

Please file a bug report, normal priority, and assign it to cpg.

I want to update this with my experience for anyone hitting a wall while setting up netboot. I just installed a fresh amahi 7 and netboot. #1 is not happening to me anymore, the files are in place (good job guys :D ). However I still had to use the work around provided by damonq (thanks :D ) for #2 and #3 because amahi-pxe.conf is not created and tftp service is disabled. If anyone is trying to figure out why tftp is not running, this might help.

We have not worked on netboot for Amahi 7. If you would please update the wiki accordingly, we would greatly appreciate it.

Not many are using this feature, so hard to keep the guidance updated. We would be happy to work on updating the RPM package as time permits. Might be a good idea to file a bug on this one so we don't lose track.

I am modifying the Amahi netboot applications, Clonezilla and gParted. I need a few testers to help verify things are working correctly.

If interested, please PM me your amahi.org user name so I can give you temporary access to test.

GParted installs and runs for me. The PXE launches and I can see my partitions on my client computer.

*My amahi netboot was installed using work around I mentioned above. Please let me know if you think it's necessary to uninstall amahi netboot and start fresh.

Here is the install log:

Yes you would need to uninstall amahi-netboot and start fresh. Ensure you remove any manual settings/files you created as well.

Here's some testing feedback:

I installed yum install amahi-netboot and it put the files into the right dirs afaik.
I enabled tftp in xinetd and added the line amahi-pxe.conf.

I rebooted the vm and then booted a client pc in pxe mode i.e. boot from nic and a menu came up with memtest.

I chose that and it began the mem test successfully. Now I would ideally like to add a pxe app to the tftp boot menu like pmagic, gparted and especialy a live linux cd of some kind like pclinuxos from the amahi server cp under add apps if possible. This way myself and future amahi users can rely of this app and for adding apps to their pxe boot menu automatically. Sound good? I was put in this testing group a while back so any emails you want to send again I'll look for.

Thanks to damonq, yeochaos, bigfoot and cpg for finally getting this to this stage.

We have a new Amahi - netboot RPM that will be available in the repo soon. It puts all the pieces in the right place. I have tested with Clonezilla and gParted. Parted Magic is now a commercial distribution so it's been removed from our app store.

More to come.

Yay new rpm!

I redid my system yesterday, so now I have fresh amahi 7 and gnome.

I tried the current netboot RPM, it puts 1 and 3 into the right place, but amahi-pxe.conf in /etc/dnsmasq.d/ is still missing for me :?

Looking forward to test the new package :D
