More volunteers needed: Mediatomb alpha

Postby SolaR » Sat Sep 04, 2010 2:24 pm

I packaged MediaTomb as an app which still is in alpha-status.

Reason being: it uses the new "Elevated privileges" feature, which is available from hdactl release 3.5.1-1, to enable it to be an one-click-install app.

I would like to see some testing on it. It works for me and some others but I'm still hearing some reports of problems.

Who would like to test this app?
Leave a comment and I'll add you to the list.

I'll add you to the collaborator's list and the app will show up on your list of available apps.

I do expect a report of how things went :!: (installation, initial usage and so on) ;)

I've installed Mediatomb with a few small glitches that SolaR helped me with on the Amahi IRC channel. I believe SolaR has fixed and updated those problem, SolaR please correct me if I am wrong. I have been able to install and re-install without any problem. Mediatomb has been able to find most (I'll get to that in a sec) media and all of my clients have been able to find the media.
The only problem now is that I have ripped 95% of my movie into dvd files, "vob type". Ripping them that way, creates a folder with two sub folders, audio.ts and video.ts. Audio.ts is always empty, but the video.ts folder is where all the movie file go. Mediatomb cannot find these files. I have checked over mediatombs web site and thought I found the solution by editing the config.xml file with this line " <map from="vob" to="video/mpeg"/> " but this hasn't worked.
One other organizational thing, mediatomb finds the media files in folders, which is great, but it's had to determine which folder they came from.
SolaR, would you have any tips on these problem?

Mediatomb has an IRC channel, so I plan to head over there for some insight. I will report back if I find anything useful.

Ok, I figured out how to better organize the db. They are several scripts for this purpose. Go to : http://mediatomb.cc/dokuwiki/scripting:scripting. Also, you will need to edit your config.xml , there is a link on the script page that show you how to to this.
