WOL (Wake-on-LAN) support is here!

Postby cpg » Thu Jul 08, 2010 3:32 pm

Hi all!

We have had this request on and off for a while. Through some true team effort, we whipped up WOL support today!

Are you interested in testing it?

How to try it out (as root):

Code: Select all

yum -y install wol rpm -Uvh http://alpha.amahi.org/tmp/hda-platform-5.4.2.4-1.noarch.rpm
Details at the WOL wiki page.

If we hear it works well, we will release it widely soon!

PS: this release also contains a couple of subtle GUI enhancements ... see if you can spot them.

I tried it out this morning after thinking just yesterday how great it would be if I could click to wake up one of my computers. It worked perfectly!

I installed this last weekend and it seems to work ok but I ran into trouble this morning that may be related.

I can nolonger get into the web interface getting a "Ruby on Rails application could not be started" error.

How do I get rid of the WOL?

@afterspencer Hmm. I doubt it could be related to WOL, but here is how we find out. Can you run this and post the URL here or PM it?

Code: Select all

tail -200 /var/hda/platform/html/log/production.log | fpaste
There should be an error there.

Also, it could be that it may only show on your screen so pasting that would also help.

Did you do anything else to the machine around the time, like adding a drive or something?

No, I have not done anything.

Looks like the problem was unrealted to WOL.

the /var/log/messages file was 250 GB. I believe that was part of the problem as / had 0% availible. I removed it (and recreated it) and now I have 49% free on the disk.

However, now I am getting a

Application error

Rails application failed to start properly

error.

Any thoughts?

Again, without details, nothing can be solved.

What errors were in /var/log/messages ???
We should placate those too!

Details, details, details, details ...

I do not know what errors were in messages - it was too big and I couldn't get it to load because I was out of space on my box.

Which logs would you like me to send you?
