Attn: Testers, Now accepting App release candidates

Postby repat » Mon Jul 05, 2010 10:21 am

The Testmasters are now accepting suggestions for the next Apps to be released. Please submit them to this thread for consideration. The usual ground rules apply, apps must be on the beta list, no outstanding issues, and please limit to three (3) candidates. A brief description of how you use the app would also be helpful

Thanks from the Testmasters

Lets try something a little different than in the past. Please check out the current applications in beta status and vote on your 3 favorite ones. You can see them here http://www.amahi.org/apps/upcoming. We will pick the 3 most popular ones for release.

Also, if you have an application you would like to see packaged for Amahi please let us know. The best way is to suggest it at http://www.amahi.org/apps/suggest. Please keep in mind that there are certain criteria that must be met in order for an application to qualify for Amahi:
  • a. Application must exist (i.e. don't suggest just a type of app or feature)
    b. Source file should be no larger than 50MB
    c. Must be a web app or usable via network (no desktop apps)
    d. Compatible with moden Linux
    e. Include a valid web site with documentation
    f. BIG BONUS, if you are willing to package it! The
If the app is a good candidate, it will be packaged, tested, then released. If anyone can help with packaging and testing, applications release cycles will be shorter.

Thanks for your continued support!

I desparately want/need a bare metal backup solution...
since PBA is basically dead in the water (and has been for about half a year) this is really a priority for me.

Clonezilla is your best bet. Now, since it has not been released live yet, you can still use it. The Amahi app version is customized to work as a PXE boot app. Download the LiveCD ISO from their website (http://clonezilla.org/download/sourcefo ... -files.php). Burn it to a CD and boot the machine you want to back up using it.

There are instructions in the wiki on how to do a back up to your HDA (http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Clonezilla). This will work very similar to the PXE version that we have packaged fro Amahi. You can also direct your backup to a USB hard drive easily. I use the LiveCD to backup my HDA and the Amahi app for clients hard wired to the HDA.

Hope this helps.
