TightVNC Server Installation Gone Awry

Postby Ennead » Mon Sep 21, 2009 7:15 pm

Trying to get TightVNC working so I can run headless. At first, it would connect, but all I could see were three check boxes. Then, I enabled the GUI, but the same thing happened. Next, made the change to automatically log in. Bad move. Now, I can't connect, and I can't get out of my "user" login and into "root". If I logout, it automatically logs back in; if I reboot, it automatically logs in. This means I can't undo any of the files that I edited to create this problem in the first place (config.conf and vncserver, in particular) because my "user" doesn't have the correct privileges. Sudo doesn't work, either. Any suggestions?

Still can't connect, but I've figured out how to change users. In the upper right hand corner, it shows the name of the active user. Click on that, and it gives you the option to change users. I had to do it at least twice in order for it to actually work. Thus, I got into root and was able to comment out the Automatic Login.

Now, for the real problem of connecting remotely via VNC ...
