File Structure & VPN Access

I am using OpenVPN to access my HDA remotely from my work laptop.

Because of the number of drives mapped by my work IT dept. there is only one available drive letter left. Ideally I would like to be able to map that drive letter to what appears as the top level of the file structure on the HDA when I access \\HDA, however, I can't seem to access that level.

The HDA is on the default IP address of 192.168.1.90, but if I try to map \\192.168.1.90\ I get an error and it can't access it. When I try to map \\192.168.1.90\music for example (which is equivalent to \\HDA\music from within the network) it maps no problem, but the I can't access \\192.168.1.90\Docs (for example) without having to change the mapping.

Does anyone know how to access the \\HDA\ folder level remotely via OpenVPN?

You cannot map the top level as a network drive regardless if you are remote or not.

However, you could create shortcuts to either the top level or each share you want to access? Will give you similar behavior.

What is the syntax for a shortcut to the top level?

I can get \\192.168.1.90\music to work as a shortcut, and weirdly I can then go up a folder level from there and the address bar shows the location as \\192.168.1.90 but trying to set up a shortcut to there doesn't work.

When using VPN, you should be able to do \\hda. Most things will function just as they do when you are accessing in the network vs remotely.
