Which machine do I set Static IP?

I going through the tutorial for OpenVPN setup and ran into a problem. The guidance says to setup a static IP address. Do i do that on my client (Windows 8) or through the server. I saw somewhere that a static IP can be added via the Amahi console but the Port Forward website also has a guide for Windows 8, so I'm confused which I'm supposed to use.

Can you point out the tutorial you are following? Happy to help once I see the context of the guidance.

BTW you can set static IP addresses (fixed IP) in the HDA Dashboard for clients receiving DHCP leases from the HDA.

The main one I'm using is
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/OpenVPN

In that it directs me to this one to setup port forwarding:
https://portforward.com/rosewill/rnx-easyn4/

Within that guide they have this guide on setting up a static IP address:
https://portforward.com/networking/stat ... dows-8.htm

Then I came across this in the wiki:
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Networ ... Static_IPs

So I'm confused on if I'm setting the HDA IP as static (192.168.0.20) or my laptop (client) which I don't see an address for when I ipconfig

The HDA is already has a static IP address so there is no need to set one. The port forward is for the HDA, not the client.

Step 1 in the guidance for your router you skip since the HDA has a static IP. Does that make sense?

OK, that does make sense. I thought it didn't make sense to set one up for my laptop and I knew that one was already static.
Thanks for clearing that up.

No problem. Happy to assist.

Can we call this one resolved?
