Wrong IP with HomeConnect?

Postby DTgreat » Thu Aug 20, 2009 7:32 am

Hey everyone, after a successful install last night, I came to work hoping to connect back home with a VPN connection, but oddly enough, I am getting no connection to the server from any external point, my port if forwarded correctly, and when I try to use Homeconnect2 It gives me the following:

Thu Aug 20 10:31:36 2009 WARNING: No server certificate verification method has been enabled. See http://openvpn.net/howto.html#mitm for more info.

That is not the IP of my server, any ideas?

That is your EXTERNAL IP, you will not connect to an internat IP address from outside your network.

If your at home, go to http://whatismyip.com and it should match with that one.

PLEASE do not post IP addresses here.

That isn't my external IP, as displayed by whatismyip.com, which is what I am expecting to be the issue.

Sorry about posting the IP, by the way.

Are you using your amahi.org username for it? and then username to login.

It should be DTgreat.yourhda.com, then your login.

Also, this will NOT work inside your network, as its not needed. You need to go to whatismyip.com from inside your network to get your external ip, not where you are trying to connect to your home network.

I am using another PC within the network with a RDP connection, I know that isn't the correct external IP, which is what is odd to me.

I am trying to VPN in from an external network as well, not from the remote connection.

On a computer that IS NOT inside your home network whatsoever, it cannot be connected AT ALL, try it.

Also, on your router did you forward port 1194 to your HDA like it says?

I am not even sitting in my home right now, so it is not connected to that network at all. Yes, I forwarded port 1194.

Yes, I can. I have a remote connection enabled on another PC on that network.

You do NOT need RDP when vpnd in. When vpned in its just like your inside your network.

Also, in amahi.org/user , does your IP address of the HDA profile match the one that it shows in the connection log?

Get rid of RDP, it defeats the purpose of VPN. VPN is made to connect your computer to your server, not to your client computers. Its basically just like a cord from the computer your on to your home router.
