Connecting to VPN while on home network

Bit of a noob question, but I can apparently successfully create a VPN connection on my Amahi IpSec VPN client while at home on my home network. I thought this was not possible? Am I mistaken, or is my server configuration potentially jacked up?

Recommend you check out the VPN troubleshooter or search for other guidance in the wik and see if that helps. Considering you are using the same internet connection to connect VPN, that may be why it worked. There could be something blocking it from the entry into your network.

I am no expert, just trying to offer some thoughts.
