Amahi Ubuntu install - missing openvpn?

Postby oxel007 » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:25 pm

Hi guys, hope you can help me here. I had few problems with headless express install (apps won't install) and could not find fedora 14 so i installed amahi for ubuntu. Openvpn server does not show in the servers tab of amahi web console and greyhole cant login to mysql database. I'm fine with gh not working but i need vpn. Amahi website shows that vpn server is not enabled. Anyone can direct me on how to enable or manually install it?
Thanks!
Alex

Yes, it's an app. I just made a post in the main thread. Just gave you access to the app.
Try it out and report in this thread, not the other please.

If you want to use Fedora 14, there are plenty of download areas. Check out the wiki and the install insructions on the web site also give the links.

Thank you for replies guys, i think i will stick with Ubuntu - looks like lts is here to stay supported for few years. I will provide some feedback on the app once my hda account "melnik" will receive access to it.
Thanks!

No problem. The point I was trying to make was Ubuntu is not production ready yet. We are still in development, although it is close.

Our only officially supported version at the moment is Fedora 14. We hope to get Ubuntu stable soon, but it is widely untested for many of the features. Although, there have been 75+ apps released for you to enjoy.

We have not thoroughly tested Greyhole, but expect it to work much the same as with Fedora. If you would like to provide feedback on Ubuntu, that would be great. When/if you find any problems, please let us know. You can file a bug in the tracker or contact support directly.

Just trying to manage expectations :)

bigfoot65,
Thank you for explanation. If thats OK i would like to as you a question to figure out if i should proceed with ubuntu or not (i personally more familiar with it).
Will i be able to upgrade to stable version of amahi without reinstalling the OS if i choose ubuntu?
For Fedora 14 install, will i be able to install all the apps? (most of them hang on "preparing to install" when I use express CD headless install)

I cannot say for certain that you will be able to upgrade to the stable version, but we will try to make it that way. Depends on what may need to be tweaked yet as we are still in BETA. I can tell you Greyhole is broke at the moment with Ubuntu.

As for Fedora 14, all apps that are free would be available. I would recommend you NOT use the Express CD. Full DVD has better results for most. It is the most stable version for Amahi at the moment. All things work to include VPN.

I have used openvpn for few days now - seems to work very well except for one bug: when i connect to vpn through my Android phone i lose internet connection. It might be a problem of the phone but was working fine before on fedora.
Thank you for hard work!

Not sure what is going on. We have had a few test and no complaints of lost internet connection. It obviously may require further evaluation to determine the cause.
