What does it mean when the red 'A' does not appear but HDAconnect is running? When I first install it, the red 'A' did appear but on subsequent start ups it's not there.
How do I initiate the connection?

Select it from the Programs menu. You can also place a shortcut on your desktop or in the taskbar.

Sorry to appear dense but when I click on the HDAGUI from the program menu, it says HDAGUI already running. As I am sitting beside the HDA, I don't want it running now but want to start it when I am working from home.
I understood that 'A' in the taskbar would allow me to do this. But it's missing.
I am very confused.

It should appear in the task bar. If it does not, then something it amiss on your Windows Machine. You can stop it using task manager but that is the brute force way.
I presume you have restarted your machine and still no icon. Did you install the latest version of hdaconnect?

Yes I have restarted my laptop and still no 'A'.
I followed the instructions under VPNWindows and installed using HDAConnect3. I assume this means I have the most current version.
Quite puzzling...

Same here...
It should appear in the task bar.
Maybe it should, but sometimes it just doesn't.

I had this happen a couple of times already on a Vista computer. Not saying it's Vista specific, but that's the OS I use most when connecting to my Amahi server. The only way I found of regaining control is, like you said, the 'brute force' method, killing the process through the task manager. Using the latest version.
Richard.
