VPN connection fails

Postby xutkm » Mon Feb 16, 2009 9:22 am

I have just moved from WHS to Amahi and I'm in trouble. I'm trying to get the VPN connection to work. On my Windows client I get this log when trying to connect:
Mon Feb 16 17:00:33 2009 OpenVPN 2.0.9 Win32-MinGW [SSL] [LZO] built on Oct 1 2006
Mon Feb 16 17:00:33 2009 IMPORTANT: OpenVPN's default port number is now 1194, based on an official port number assignment by IANA. OpenVPN 2.0-beta16 and earlier used 5000 as the default port.

Mon Feb 16 17:00:33 2009 TLS: Initial packet from 81.233.117.224:1194, sid=b26254c3 42fa5c5a

I don't know what to do! Help please!

hi kim,

apologies for the belated reply.

the log does not have enough information to show an error (the warning is harmless).

let me ask this:
  • is the windows client vista with the latest patches? if so, please get the latest VPN client from the openvpn site and install it. then you need to configure it by hand, just like the windows or linux client (check the wiki).
  • can you provide more of the log up to the place where it fails?
  • is your server x86_64? there is a small bug with the 64-bit vpn server.
incidentally, in the irc channel we can test the vpn for you with a temp user, just to rule out the client.
