HDAConnect3 & Windows 2000

Postby NeverSimple » Sat Nov 06, 2010 6:46 am

Hello,

Recently I tried installing HDAConnect3 on a Windows 2000 client (I know: old....), installation went well but it didn't connect. In the log I saw that it was trying to execute "C:/windows/system32/route -something". On Windows 2000 the systemfolder is still named 'WINNT', so this did not work. I just made a folder "C:/windows/system32" and copied 'route.exe' from the win 2000 folder into it. To my surprise it worked immediately.

So, although this probably isn't high on the priority list ;) , maybe the hardcoded path could be replaced with the environment variable %WINDIR% ?

Please submit a feature request. Although according to the wiki, it only supports WIndows XP, Vista, and 7. Might consider adding this to the wiki in that area for those who use Windows 2000, which are probably very few.

Not sure how hda connect gets updated as we do not directly support it. There is a 3rd party who provides this software.

Not sure about the feature request. Like you, I also assume that there aren't many people still using a windows 2000 client to connect to Amahi. There are issues much more important than this and I don't want to 'litter' the feature list. Besides, I haven't tested this to any extend, so maybe there are other problems. It worked for me, so it could work for others.
People experiencing this issue will probably search the forum and find this. Maybe that's good enough for such an old OS.

True. I would add it to the wiki on the VPN page. You can put a disclaimer that it has not been tested....maybe something near the bottom calling it a workaround for Windows 2000.

People tend to not search the forums for answers. I dunno why, but most do look at the wiki. We are planning on making a troubleshooting page at some point to consolidate all the different fixes/work arounds for apps and such to the wiki. This would consolidate them and be easier for users to find.

Now we just need to find someone to work that (hint hint). I am too tied up as is most of the team with Fedora 14 and other issues.

I just thought of something: make Amahi so good there won't be any troubles! This will save a lot of work! (why didn't anyone else think of this?)
