Transmission - Easy question 2

Postby beans » Sun Aug 03, 2014 4:53 am

I created a new Torrent share.
I also change the download-dir in the transmission config file.

Now when I add it to Transmission I get the following error message -

Error: Permission denied (/home/shares/torrents2/MovieTitle

I still have easy access to the new share folder directly through the network and other computers.

Any ideas?

BTW - I have read the WIKI it says to look for unmask:18. I found unmask but it is unmask:0, not 18.

Ensure the ownership permissions match the default torrent share. I presume you edited the .json file.

Yes, I did edit it, but not the permission as I mentioned I did not have that unmask 18 line.

However, I just rebooted and the change in directory did not stick as the default upload folder seems to still be the OLD dir.

Weird, I save it. Closed it and then reopened it to see if the changes where there and they were. But again after the reboot it was gone.

Should I change that unmask line anyway?

The default Transmission setting on install should have already set the umask. I presume you are using Amahi 7.

This app is kind of odd to configure. What's in the wiki has not been thoroughly tested. You may want to check the internet for additional guidance.

This may help.

I know this guidance is Ubuntu, but I believe behavior is the same.

Sounds like you need to stop transmisison-daemon, then make your changes followed by a start. Since it's monitored by watchdog, you will need to go to Servers in the Setting tab and disable that piece first.

Try that and see if it helps.

1. Turned off the watchdog
2. Turned off Transmission
2. Turned off the daemon
3. Edited the files to change the directory and change unmask to 2.
4. Turned on Transmission
5. Turned on the daemon
6. Turned on the watchdog

Thought it was going to work, but in the end I got the same share folder AND still no permission to put torrent in the folder

Working on a few other options. Will let everyone know.

Nothing can ever be easy. Once you sort it out, please update the wiki guidance.
