Just to cearify: After the express CD, do you have to install a desktop before using the VNC One Click?

No. VNC installs the desktop. It will take a while, but well worth it when it finishes.

OK, thanks.

I then tried over again:

Install form express CD, cheked that the dashboard was up and running. DHCP working, could see my devices in "http://hda/tab/network".

As the very first thing tried to install the One click VNC. After a while the "http://hda/tab/apps" page displayed this message:

This app failed to install :-( We REALLY HATE that. This could be due to a bug, slow failed network, app bug or other changes to the system.
Please share the logs (in Linux, via terminal or SSH) using "apaste" as follows:tail -600 /var/log/amahi-app-installer.log | apaste
If you feel this is a bug we at the Amahi Team would like to hear from you via the forums the bug tracker or the IRC support channel.

This was the result ... :

Do you have a slow connection? As I mentioned, this app takes quite a while to install.

You might try again, but before you do recommend you clear your browser cache. Might reboot the HDA as well.

Although not mandatory, it's advisable to install OS updates too. I would do all this before trying to install the app again.

UPDATE: You can also do this before installing the app to help the install process:

Code: Select all

yum install @gnome

Connection is about 8Mb/s dl.

Got it working now following your advice and two uninstall/installs.

In http://hda/tab/settings/servers, VNC Server shows up with a red "stopped", so does the openVPNserver but both of them are working ...

Samba even showed up as stopped for a while, and this was real. It got back to green after "yum -y update"

... next question will probably be in the Greyhole sub forum ...

Thanks!

Glad you got it installed.

If you restart the service, then refresh the status it should show GREEN. There is a problem with how it works, that after install or reboot, a restart of the service is needed to get the Server to show GREEN.

I have tried to fix it, but this is one of those which is very difficult to find a way. We may just remove it from the Server tab and then it won't matter.
