SOLVED: Apps just re open the dashboard

Postby jwellsy » Sun Mar 02, 2014 10:44 pm

So i have searched through posts and noticed this has happened to other people, but no real answer to fix my problem. But when i click on an app, a new window opens, asks for username and pw and then just take you back to the dashboard. I just installed amahi with the installer CD and the system is up and running. I can access share folders, just can't run apps. I have my router set to dish out the IPs. anyone have an idea?

The HDA has it's own DHCP and DNS server. You should disable the DHCP server on your router and let the HDA manage it.

If you don't want to do so, then turn it off on the HDA. You will need to refresh the client IP address after doing so.

Sorry for not going into more detail last night with this. It was late and it had already been hours of playing with Linux for the first time.
Yes is did follow the guide to the letter. Turned off my routers DHCP, rest my computer, even erased the wireless settings and had the computer reconnect to the router from scratch. Ran the network trouble shooter, used PuTTY to access the root user and kept getting "bad command" when i typed in nslookup hda.

I also went into settings and toggled advanced settings, but do not seem to get any of the extra settings. nothing changes, no new tabs or options.

You said the router was handing out IP addresses so that is why I mentioned that part.

As for the Advanced settings, if you go to the network tab you will see an option for settings. That is where the DHCP server can be turned on and off.

Did the network troubleshooter indicate a problem?

If your router DHCP is on, then uncheck it. Otherwise leave it checked. Renew the IP address on your client.

Also can you access the dashboard via the IP address of the HDA.

If you add the following package as root user, you should be able to run the troubleshooter:

Code: Select all

yum install net-tools

So the router DHCP is def off and the box is checked for DHCP on my network settings on the HDA. i reset my ip and under my wireless details it is showing the HDA's IP address under DCP server. i can access the dashboard if i type HDA/ or the IP adress no problem.

I also installed net-tools successfully, but still get bad command when i try to run nslookup hda. and i am using the root login and password. I also tried typing su - as well

Ok, that is good. You can try as root user:

Code: Select all

yum install bind-utils
Does the DNS server for your client reflect the IP address of the HDA or your router? Have you tried accessing apps again?
