VNC Wiki Update - Have you got VNC working?

Postby wyldeone » Sun Dec 29, 2013 3:25 am

Howdy Folks

I recently install Fedora 19 with Amahi 7 and after much frustration i have finally managed to install TigerVNC Server and have it fully working on my Windows laptop using UltraVNC under a Mate-Desktop Environment. After spending many hours pulling incomplete/incorrect information from the web and piecing it all together to get it to all work, i wish to contribute by updating the existing out of date VNC Wiki.

If anyone has managed to install TigerVNC and have it fully working under any of the other desktop environments like Gnome or KDE, please let me know then we can update the wiki with this info, if you wish to help of course :)

Or if you wish to have a go installing TigerVNC under another desktop environment again let me know as I have managed to pull some info for various desktop installation.

Awesome. We are looking forward to your contribution.

We are testing the Amahi VNC app currently, using just a simple Gnome desktop. Will be interested to see how your configuration works.

Not sure if you can run two desktops at the same time. Might wanna check the internet on that one.

I've created the wiki page https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/TigerVNC

Its still a work in progress and would be grateful if someone could test what i've put in the wiki to make sure i got it right.

I'll attempt Gnome & Cinnamon desktops over next few days (hopefully)

Cheers

Nicely done! Thanks for contributing. I will give it a shot tonight. BTW, I updated it to indicate Amahi 7 (Fedora 19) so users don't try it on a different Amahi OS. It's always important that we appropriately label wiki articles as such.

EDIT: Do you use software to generate wiki code? I noticed there were comments about the page being script generated.

Thanx for comment - I'm a first time wiki page contributor lol

No software just a lot of typing and cut/paste

Theres still a few things i'm playing around with at the moment with the VNC stuff so the wiki in not yet complete but enough to get a basic setup going.

Question.

As I go through this, when I enter "cd ~/.vnc" (Setup Desktop Environment Access section), it responds that the directory does not exist. What am I missing?

There's a chance the sequence to installing/setup of tigerVNC may need a slight change. I install and messed around quite a bit before i finally got it working.

Let me have a quick look at the sequence.

It is possible that the folder has not yet been created.

If you have created the vncserver@:1.service file and modified it for root then please try the following.

First as root run the command in terminal

systemctl daemon-reload

Then check to see if the folder has been created, as root run

cd ~/.vnc

If the folder is still not there then run the following as root

systemctl enable vncserver@:1.service
systemctl start vncserver@:1.service

Then recheck to see if folder is created.

Please could you let know which one creates the folder.
