Postby marcel » Wed Jun 24, 2009 10:48 am

I was expermenting with Joomla. I saw that this is a older version of Joomla (version 1.5.10). Meanwhile, there is a securty update. I was wondering is it possible to update one click application?

at the moment, only uninstalling and re-installing again is supported. that is, when there is a new
version of the app.

we need more app packagers, though!
it's easy and enjoyable. you can learn a lot too.
(when you run agroun, other users can help with details of the installs).

is there any harm in updating the apps manually through the terminal?
ie squeezebox server is now at 7.4 but the packaged amahi is at 7.3.2.
so if i uninstalled the amahi app, installed manually and then installed the amahi app later when it reached the same version, would it cause any issues?

it may cause some issues, you may want to uninstall, then install as a web app. installing on top is likely to not work.

this is a good idea - could you file a feature request in our bug tracker at http://bugs.amahi.org asking for a feature for a way to indicate to the app packager(s) that this app needs an update?

i wonder - where would the best place be for this?
in the page for the app in http://www.amahi.org or in the hda at http://hda ?
i get the impression that the hda page does not get access much after install.

i don't think it does either, unless the person is using it as a desktop too.....
it's certainly good for installing and uninstalling, configuring etc but the one thing it needs is......
locked down! imagine coming home to find the kids have stumbled across it and deleted your shares!!
how about an account which you log on through the terminal which starts x, takes you to the hda page, then when you log out goes to run level 3?

You can follow the guidance http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Passwor ... etup_pages and lock down your HDA page. This will keep the kids out and only the person who knows the user id and password can access the HDA pages.
