Crashplan Questions

Postby ciscoh » Mon Apr 02, 2012 8:12 am

I just started playing with Crashplan.

I notice it creates a folder in /var/hda/files but not a samba share?

Should it have? I want Greyhole to manage it because it is filling up my landing zone.

It does not create a share. That was left for users to decide. Also not sure if Greyhole works well with CrashPlan or not. I know Greyhole does not play nicely with Amahi Sync.

Yes or call it anything you want. I presume you would then need to config CrashPlan to pull from that location.

pointing crashplan to the shares doesnt work. it just backs up the symlinks, not the actual files.

i pointed it to the gh directory on my first drive instead.

now i guess i will have to play with making that drive sticky for all my shares.

I wonder if using the mount_local_shares script with Greyhole will alleviate that issue. It would be easier to point to the original shares in my opinion.

Crashplan is filling up my landing zone, I was able to point the storage to a share in crashplan, what is the proper way to get crashplan to use greyhole?

Since there is already a share established, you should be able to add that to the storage pool and select number of copies. Greyhole will then see it and start it's magic. Make sure you have mount_shares_locally script running as well.

You can force it to start by doing

Code: Select all

greyhole -f
as well.

When using the mount_shares_locally, ensure you are working with files in /mnt/samba/crashplan. That is the proper way to modify files locally on the HDA. I thought it was the other way, but was corrected by the Greyhole author.

Should be able to change that in Crashplan I would think. You also have to ensure you restart the mount_shares_locally if you installed Crashplan after it was the script was implemented on your HDA.
