VNC: one-click install - Need help setting up

Postby cybernica » Mon Sep 19, 2011 9:33 am

Hi,

I'm not sure what step I'm missing, but after installing VNC (the one-lick install version), and trying to access it with TightVNC I keep on getting the following error:

"Failed to connect to server (192.168.1.10)"

Is there any files, settings I need to modify to get it working? I've searched the forums and by looks of it, nobody is having this same issue.

Please advise.

Cheers!

Still haven't figured it out, are there any known issue with the one-click VNC install. Is the /etc/sysconfig/vncservers the only config file for VNC, where can i verify the port settings, maybe this is the issue? Does my machine need to be logged into the desktop in order for VNC to work or can it work of the command line?

Please help!

Thanks,

you need to run a vnc client from say a windows box . that will connect to vnc on amahi box

you dont need the desktop loaded on amahi for vnc to work

this should help

To connect to this server use user hda:4 as the host:display for the VNC connection, and the password AmahiVNC. This server runs the desktop as the first Amahi admin user

You may want to change the resolution and the password.

The default resolution is set to a safe 1000x750, but small-ish for any self-respecting geek :)

You can change it in /etc/sysconfig/vncservers. You have to restart the service after changing anything, under Setup > Settings > Servers.

The password can be changed with vncpasswd when logged in as the user that runs the VNC server.

This server app will save previous vncserver settings under /tmp/vncserver-DATE

If you are going to use this routinely and want to conserve resources, you may want to set the system runlevel to 3, so that it does not start the

I already had read the Wiki, which states this info, and yes i'm using a windows box with a VNC client. I've tested TightVNC and VNC Viewer and with both I can't seem to establish a connection with VNC Server. Where do I need to enter "hda:4 as the host:display for the VNC connection, and the password AmahiVNC", i would assume this is a prompt after the server connection is established? I've ensured the VNC server is running, and even added port 5900 to my forwarding rules on my router, even though i don't think it's necessary if i'm trying to access the server internally. I'm sure i'm just missing some little step, does anybody have any other advise? Is there another confi file that needs to be modified?

Thanks,

Have you checked the app install log? It is amahi-app-installer.log in /var/log directory.

I have installed VNC and it works with no problems for me. I also changed the password for my instance with no issues.

Is there another method to uninstall the APP?

So I've figured it out, all I had to do was add a ":4" after my server's IP address. Now it just bothers me that I wasn't able to uninstall the app like the rest of the apps (not that I want to), but how can i make sure I didn't mess up any configs?

Thanks,
