Apologies in advance for the negative post. But, I did pay for this app...
DLNA for Fedora 14, Amahi 6 is not playing either of 2 mkv files I try- neither XBOX 360 nor PS3 will play them. One is 720p, the other 1080p. VLC opens them, but doesn't play them well, either. Boxee plays both mkv files flawlessly (from the HDA). The stream info from the 1080p file is:
STREAM 0
codec H264 - MPEG 4 AVC (part 10)
STREAM 1
codec dts
The 720p file has the same video codec, audio is MPEG AAC audio.
The XBOX 360 and the PS3 see Amahi just fine. They both will play avi files from Amahi. The PS3 is running system v3.56. The XBOX 360 system is up to date, too. The info at http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/DLNA says that mkv files are working on the PS3. Hence my purchase of the app. Please provide support. Thank you.

Re: DLNA not playing mkv
update: Airplayer on iPad plays the avi files from Amahi well. Airplayer also opens and plays the mkv files referenced above - albeit very choppy (unwatchable). Perhaps the issue is with the PS3 and the XBOX 360 and not on the Amahi/ DLNA side? Perhaps Fedora 14 is missing some dependencies? Anyone know anything about this stuff who'd care to share? Thanks!

Re: DLNA not playing mkv
workaround (for now): transcoding the mkv (arggghh)
Aimersoft's Total Media Converter for (Mac and PC) works well. Took my 1080p mkv and turned it into a 1080p mov which PS3 plays well. I tried Aimersoft's PS3 preset mp4 transcode setting- not so great - lossy compression and won't go above 720p resolution. 5.1 surround sound is well maintained in both (higher bitrate in for the mov file).
Good luck out there with your mkv files! Please post a response if you know of a better way to deal with them on Amahi. Thanks!
