Can't install VirtualBox on HDA

Postby vegaramos1 » Wed Jan 19, 2011 9:31 pm

I know VirtualBox isn't a supported app on Amahi, but I'm just wondering in anyone has had any luck installing VirtualBox on the your HDA. I've tried to install it using info I found on the web. I have successfully installed it, but when I try to start a new virtual machine I created for Windows XP, it doesn't start and I get the following message.

"The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing

'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary."

When I try to recompile the kernel as instructed as root, I enter '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' and I get the following error.
Trying to register the VirtualBox kernel modules using DKMS
Error! Your kernel source for kernel 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE cannot be found at
/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE/build or /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE/source.

Anyone know how I can get VirtualBox installed?
(Failed, trying without DKMS)

Recommend you check out the wiki.

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/VirtualBox

It shows how to install VirtualBox on the HDA. If that does not help, we can address it then.

Thank you so much, I don't know how I missed that wiki, but that did solve my problems.
