.mkv Transcoder

So as I'm sure many of you are aware, the Playstation 3 does not support .mkv files. I did a quick search and only found one post about this and it was a little old, so I thought I'd put the question out there again and see if there was anything new.

Basically I love streaming my videos to my ps3 from my server, but many of the files I have are .mkv files. I was wondering if there was an app out there to transcode the files on the fly rather than having to transcode them to another file type beforehand.

Ideas?

I'm using ps3mediaserver. My Amahi server is running headless so I use vncserver and long in to the Fedora desktop using an XP laptop. You'll need to use the latest beta (412 I think). Since ps3mediaserver is a Java application and needs a desktop to run you'll need to leave vncserver running all the time. Ps3mediaserver isn't being actively developed as far as I can tell but it works for me. You can get more configuration info on the forum at ps3mediaserver.org

Alright thanks, I'll look into it and see if I can figure it out.

Too bad there isn't one out there that is actively developed, it seems like there would be a lot of people who would use this.

Just installed Mediatomb (beta) today, mkv files are transcoded to the PS3.

I didn't see MediaTomb in the apps list, where do I find that?

It is currently in beta testing. If you are interested in helping test, please stop by the IRC and look for cpg or myself. We require feedback on testing and filing of any bugs.

Thanks bigfoot.

I stopped in and talked to cpg. He told me to send an email to team@ so I did.

Looking forward to being a tester for you guys!
