Transmission - Moving/accessing downloaded file

Postby AZAN » Thu Oct 28, 2010 7:21 pm

Hi,

I have problem accessing the completed downloaded file using transmission. It looks like all downloaded file/directory are under "transmission" as owner and group. If using my windows PC to access \var\hda\files\torrents , I cannot read some of the downloaded folder. I have to do chmod 777 to each of the completed download folder before I can access... is thiis the way it should be? Anyway to configure this so I do not have to do this each time?

Thanks

I think I only had to chmod777 my torrents folder once and it lets me move stuff almost right away.

Sgtfoo,

Can you let me know the exact line you use ? I used 'chmod 777 torrents' and didn't seem to work. Also use 'chmod +R 777 torrents' too but then again, everytime you download a new file you will have to do this again. not sure if I do something wrong here.

Thanks again

I was having this issue myself, what I did was change the umask of the transmission user to create all folders with 777 and all files as 655, also I changed the owner of the files to my main admin account. It resolved the issues I was having. Additionally, I wrote a small script to do this to all files in a particular directory, which I run when I have permissions conflicts.
Dakka dakka dakka....boom.

Awesome.

Can you please post the guidance in the wiki. There is a a page already at http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Transmission. Maybe include an area at the bottom called 'Troubleshooting' and then users who have the same issues will find the solution easily.

We need more users to post solutions in the wiki as this minimizes the amount of time the core team spends revisiting repeat issues. Also it gives users a better experience with Amahi.
