I had some time available so I played with scanner server again and finally got it working. I ended up having to follow ceayuso's step of adding to fstab. Then the scanner showed up in the app but wouldn't scan. It's a CanoScan so like ho0k3r I changed the name to just Canon and all is working correctly. When I'm feeling brave I'll remove everything and try again
