Hello,
I am new to linux and today I've managed to install Amahi home server succesfully (Fedora 12). Everything configured and set up fine.
I installed the program with the instructions on the crashplan site. Next I started the GUI and tried to browse to the files I would like to backup. My problem here is that I can't select that directory with my files (var/files/hda/myfiles). I can only see directory's like 'root' and 'mnt' and a couple of others.
I downloaded the package and unzipped it. next I ran the install script (install.sh) as root user.
This is how I installed it (copy from terminal window):
Your selections:
CrashPlan will install to: /usr/local/crashplan
And put links to binaries in: y
And store datas in: /usr/local/var/crashplan
Your init.d dir is: /etc/init.d
Your current runlevel directory is: /etc/rc5.d
Important directories:
Installation:
/usr/local/crashplan
Logs:
/usr/local/crashplan/log
Default archive location:
/usr/local/var/crashplan
Start Scripts:
sudo /usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine start|stop
/usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanDesktop
You can run the CrashPlan Desktop UI locally as your own user or connect
a remote Desktop UI to this Service via port-forwarding and manage it
remotely. Instructions for remote management are in the readme files
placed in your installation directory:
/usr/local/crashplan/doc
I hope anyone could give me an answer.
Thank you.
Crashplan Home, selecting folders for backup
Re: Crashplan Home, selecting folders for backup
Stop CrashPlan (the service): service crashplan stop
Then edit this file: /usr/local/crashplan/conf/my.service.xml
Look for a line like this:
and remove it.
Restart the CrashPlan service: service crashplan start
You should see /var now in the UI.
Then edit this file: /usr/local/crashplan/conf/my.service.xml
Look for a line like this:
Code: Select all
<pattern regex="/var/"/>
Restart the CrashPlan service: service crashplan start
You should see /var now in the UI.

Re: Crashplan Home, selecting folders for backup
Thanx. It worked well for me. I deleted the line only under "linux" and I am now able to see the /var dir.
Thanx for helping!

Re: Crashplan Home, selecting folders for backup
I implemented this change in the one-click install now, so ppl who install CP in the future should be able to see /var out front.
Thanks for the bug report!

Re: Crashplan Home, selecting folders for backup
When do you anticipate Crashplan being generally available?
Re: Crashplan Home, selecting folders for backup
It should have been released months ago if you ask me.
Maybe sending an email to support at amahi dot org would help speed things up.

Re: Crashplan Home, selecting folders for backup
I also just emailed support

Re: Crashplan Home, selecting folders for backup
I got the impression there were still some issues. sonofmof tried it and also came across some issues (please post them, if that's the case, else say so too).
My HDA: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz on MSI board, 8GB RAM, 1TBx2+3TBx1
Re: Crashplan Home, selecting folders for backup
Thanks for the access guys. - My first "Beta" App.
Ok, here's what happened.
The one click install did not work for me, it looked like it was installing, but trying to run the app from the terminal did not work and i couldn't find the app listed anywhere under any of the menus.
Oddly though, the Amahi servers page said it was running.
Crashplan on my desktops also didn't recognise it as an available machine, but each could see the other desktops on my network. Something was definately wrong.
I tracked down a 3rd party site which gave instructions about how to install it with the app from the crashplan site. so i did this, but it failed first time due to missing JRE components ?
At this point I gave up for a few days.
I then decided to remove all traces of crashplan and try to start again.
I updated java (perhaps unneccessarily) then did a fresh install of the full Crashplan app - Success! (although still no easy access icons - why would I want to use terminal to access this ?)
I then clicked the amahi version and it installed again, however it now constantly shows the crashplan server as stopped, even though it is working because I'm now backing up my desktops to it on a nightly basis.
For me at least, it (the Amahi version) really doesn't seem to work.
Apologies.
btw, happy to participate in any testing of bug fixing if someone more techie can guide me through it
Thanks
Chris
