It's still in testing, so in BETA status. You can also do a manual install by following the guidance on the Amahi Mail System wiki page.

I caution you that this is for advanced users and not inexperienced Linux folks. You could break your HDA if not careful. We don't offer any support as it's not ready for public consumption.

@Bigfoot65, warning duly noted, I still have a question?

I basically am looking to host my own smtp server to router handle out going mail for my personal domain (namecheap is the registrar) and use gmail as a client. As of this past august, google no longer supports using their smtp servers for domain aliases unless you are a google for business user, otherwise I would opt for the simpler solution.

Is the beta stable enough to support this function (again, warnings understood). This is for personal use and not mission critical.

It should be fine.

There as not been much interest in this app, so I have not tried it in a while. Good news is if something fails, the install log in the app directory will pinpoint the issue.

I would recommend changing one thing when before you configure it after the initial Amahi app install. Comment out line 164:

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/freshclam -v
in the mail-setup.sh script. This has been taking a long time due to the ClamAV servers to run, so best to run it after you complete all the install steps. I have seen it cause the setup to fail or take a long time in past tests.

Does that make sense?

EDIT: BTW I added this as a known potential issue to the wiki guidance for the Amahi Mail System.

Yup. Sure does.

When I have some more time later this weekend I will try it. I will unhash clamAV in mail script if install proceeds without issue and report back.

Cheers!

I have installed Amahi Mail System on fedora19/amahi7 and it works very well. What are the plans for amahi8?. I would love to upgrade but I would not want to loose this nice app on my HDA.

Only for Fedora 19 at this time. Once there is a Fedora 21 version, we will be looking for testers.

Any updates on this app? Will it be available on amahi 9?

Possibly.

Please submit a bug report. Login with your amahi.org credentials, then select Project and Apps. Next choose New Issue and go from there.

What are my options? is it amahi mail system? Is it something else?

How would you recommend to approach it?

Kind regards,

Hello,

The amahi-mail-system App is outdated and not intended to be a fully functional mail system.

Running your own mail server is quite complicated and a lot of work. Not sure if you have done any research on it, but there are a few tutorials on the internet for setting up your own system. Don't believe any of them are geared toward Fedora though.

I personally use a an SMTP server on my HDA, but it's only for system emails from my network servers. I leave the use of email outside my network to my ISP provider and Gmail.

Sorry this is probably not helpful, but wanted your to know what challenges you might encounter trying install, configure, and manage your own mail server.
