When I do a chmod it says it did not change anything to the symbolic link and the referent. I tried it with:

chmod -Rv 0777 /var/hda/files/Downloads

Edit: /var/hda/files/Downloads is owned by apache, while /mnt/samba/Downloads is owned by my main user muppets4
The /var/hda/files/Downloads should be owned by you, not apache. That might be part of the problem. All shares are typically owned by the user.

I've given up on this. It frustrates me too much. I am now the owner of both the mnt/samba and the var/hda/files/ folders. SAB crashes, files stick in the midst of downloading etc. I've put the folders back to /var/hda/files/Downloads. The HDD space is limited, but at least it is downloading.

Thx for your time and patience.

Sorry to hear it's still not working. Maybe we will think of something else along the way.
