I have chowned it back to root:root now, chowned the script too at root:root. I have as a username 'muppets4' in both the mount_shares_locally and the credentials file. Cifs-utils are up to date. I am slowly beginning to sweat :D

Maybe try stopping script. Reboot and see if it works. There is something amiss with your system possibly. Not sure why its not working as I have had no issues with it on mine.

You're the best. I've found it. I had, trying to get into MySQL, reset the password of the root account. That field was blank, I just noticed that. By filling in hda as a password, the script loaded and I am seeing the shares. SAB is using it right as we speak!

One last question, how do I let it start up automatically when booting up?

It should start automatically on reboot providing you followed the wiki guidance. This is the line that does it:

chkconfig --add mount_shares_locally

I'm still in trouble. Downloading does not go well. The errors I get from Sab are:

2011-10-18 10:39:06,156

ERROR:
Cannot change permissions of /mnt/samba/Downloads/_UNPACK_XXXXX (2010)-MHD/xxxxx-720p.r52

2011-10-18 10:39:06,156

ERROR:
Cannot change permissions of /mnt/samba/Downloads/_UNPACK_XXXXX (2010) XXXX-MHD

2011-10-18 10:39:04,376

ERROR:
Saving /mnt/samba/Downloads/temp/XXXXX (2010)XXXXX-MHD/__ADMIN__/SABnzbd_nzo_7y4YHK failed

In the SAB config I have stated that it should have 777 rights. It tries to do that, but is not allowed by the system. Ive tried to alter the rights, but I must be doing something wrong again.

From the terminal, logged in as root, I did:
chmod -Rv a+rwx /mnt/samba/Downloads
the system tells me that files have been set to 777

But when I check through my FTP client, the only have 770 rights.

EDIT: FYI when I check the folders in /mnt/samba they are owned by user muppets4

OK, ensure the actual share (/var/hda/files/Downloads) is set to 777 as well and owned by you. I could be wrong, but the script should replicate those permissions.

When I do a chmod it says it did not change anything to the symbolic link and the referent. I tried it with:

chmod -Rv 0777 /var/hda/files/Downloads

Edit: /var/hda/files/Downloads is owned by apache, while /mnt/samba/Downloads is owned by my main user muppets4
