Plex media server version

Postby hal1968 » Thu Mar 27, 2014 5:45 pm

This is directed towards that Bigfoot guy.
OK... without trying to sound too stupid ... I noticed you informed another fella he could install an updated version of plex media server overtop of the amahi app (I purchased mine through the whole 1 click process in apps and I am on amahi 7),
Now if you would be so kind as to list the best direction to doing this manually , I would appreciate it ... I've got most of this stuff running pretty dam good (and I am reluctant to bugger it up) but as mentioned in that other post ... there has been some significant changes with the PMS server ... which the updated clients can take advantage of.
BTW ... that plex program ... dam ... that's some good stuff... works like a charm. you guys should support their development 100% ... even a not so computer literate person like myself has it running good and with your guys help it's functioning off a Linux based server ( which I know absolutely next to nothing about)... this kinda stuff opens a guys eyes up quite a bit
Thx in advance

Happy to help. Could your please point me to the reference where I stated this update was possible. Reason being is I want to ensure it was after we custom built the RPM for Pled.

If so, then I can help. Otherwise there could be dependency complications with DLNA app if you have it installed.

and in fact ... I haven't manually added anything named DLNA app ... unless its something that is done automatically without my knowledge
So as far as I can tell at this point ... it shouldn't be a problem ... unless that DLNA option is something I should consider in your opinion... but I haven't had any issues at all with other devices recognizing anything (assuming that's what the DLNA thing is for)

That post was for Ubuntu. There is a possibility that updating to the latest could break the app or HDA. We custom package Plex for Amahi 7.

If you are willing to accept the risk, you can follow guidance in the wiki.
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Plex_Media_Server

Please understand we may not be able to assist should something go wrong.

BTW DLNA is an Amahi app for the minidlna server.

If there is a new version of Plex Media Server, please submit a bug report.
https://bugs.amahi.org

We will get to it when time permits. Also we only support the free version with the Amahi app.

Done ... first time I've done that ... hope you don't mind ... I selected you as some kind of "watcher" in the options at the bottom...
Do you guys have some kind of test machine laying around to see if the latest version would update with no issues (probably not) ... just a thought .

Perfect.

It's pretty straight forward to file a bug report. I appreciate you adding me as a watcher. I keep close tabs on the bug reports, especially for apps.
