weird issue with amahitunes

hmm I have a weird issue with amahitunes: iTunes (on Mac) will play some tracks, but not all tracks. You can hit play all you want but it just won't stream.
it's not a permission issue since all music is owned by apache:user and world read/write/executable
I already restarted the mt-daapd service and the avahi-daemon service to no avail.
If I add the file(s) to the iTunes library over the smb share they play fine. Once they've been added they play fine in amahitunes as well - even when the smb-share is disconnected

i have heard of this of the firefly media server. some types of formats are not supported somehow. did you check the log for mt-daap?
i believe it will show streams that it cannot play, iirc.

there were some log entries about short files (3) so I've removed them...
will test and report back if this has helped. It doesn't seem likely since those 3 files are not the files I was trying to play.

firefly scans the files initially and later periodically. that may be why.

that comment makes it even weirder... iTunes is only able to play the stuff that's been added last week...

OK, I tried moving the stuff around, put in in another share, put it back, same result. doublechecked the permissions, all OK.
Then for the heck of it I created a new subfolder "music" in music (making the full path /var/hda/files/music/music/) and moved all my mp3's in there (instead of /var/hda/files/music/) and iTunes is able to find & play every mp3 now.
me no understand.

strange. check the /var/log/messages, which is where i think the summary reports go. you can also check the web page for the mt-daapd server ... at
http://hda:3689 and see the guts of it.
