miniDLNA not showing Movies folder

Postby hemington1 » Sun Jan 20, 2013 6:53 pm

This may be a simple fix, but I've been trying for a while now with no success. I'm now at the point where I need help.
I recently added a second hard drive to my HDA, as per the wiki and relocated my shared folders to that drive (as per the wiki). All went well. After changing the folder path in minidlna.config (as per the wiki)I can access Pictures and Music from any enabled device. However, the Movies folder is not showing.
I've checked spelling, path, and share permissions and all folders appear to be the same, so why is Movies not showing?

Did you restart minidlna? I had problems similar and restarting it fixed mine.

I presume you checked this page out:

I used that wiki page. The only thing I haven't tried is the trouble shooting bash code.
Yes, I have restarted the minidlna server and the HDA server a few times with no change.
There are some solutions on the Ubuntu forums such as changing port from 8200 to 8201, but that doesn't solve the issue either.
I may also try making a new share (videos) and see if that is visible from the clients.

Nothing I do will get a movie/video folder to show on the clients.
I've exhausted my google searce, so I'll give Media Tomb a go for movies for the moment.

After having another play with minidlna, I discovered the data file (file.db) was read only. Deleting the file and restarting minidlna created a new data file and a rescan.
This seems to have solved the issue of missing folders and files. They all show up on the clients now.

Great to hear it is solved. Would you be willing to update the DLNA troubleshooting area to indicate your solution? It would be greatly appreciated and help others.

Unfortunately that is only a temp fix. The problem will happen again.

I switched to mediatomb and that is working better.

yes, unfortunately a temp solution. I had a disconnection error in the minidlna log yesterday, which made the data file read only.
I had to repeat the fix to get new files to show on the clients.
Bigfoot, is this an sql related problem?

Sorry, I never experienced this before and I use the DNLA app often. It may be because I am still on F14.

This sounds like it would be a bug that we can locate/fix ourselves and report a patch upstream.

Is there a reproducible case we can replicate this with (in a small scale if possible, of course)?

SQL is not needed for minidlna.

In F14 i never had the issue. Once going to ubuntu the problem started. Im not sure if its a minidlna issue or an ubuntu issue
