XBMC on Ubuntu Amahi server

Postby hemington1 » Thu Nov 29, 2012 7:38 pm

Hello
just a quick question. I have my newly configured server located in my TV cabinet.
Can I install XBMC in Ubuntu to play back directly to my TV without harming the Amahi installation?
Regards.

Not sure. I think there might be guidance in the wiki.

Thanks Big.
The wiki explains how to incorporate XBMC into Amahi on Fedora 14.
I'm interested in using XBMC on the Ubuntu desktop.
Anyone else used XBMC this way without adverse effects on their Amahi install?
Regards.

NP. The setup for Ubuntu should be very similar to the Fedora instructions. If it works with Amahi on Fedora, then it should work fine with Ubuntu.

The Amahi platform is pretty much the same on both OSes.

Keep in mind that I'm very, VERY new to both Amahi and Ubuntu... but yes it can be done. Just follow the instructions on the XBMC site.

My server is far from being put to actual use... I need an hdmi card, sata cards and more drives... and that's depending if the machine even has enough horsepower for what I want... but in my tests, it installed easily and didn't seem to muck with Amahi.

For my own setup, ideally, it'll be running Newznab, Sickbeard, Couchpotato, Plex media server and then XBMC for the front end. Currently, with the exception of xbmc, all that is being done by my Win 7 desktop and serves everything to my PS3.
