DLNA Server Skipping movies
DLNA Server Skipping movies
the DLNA media servers seems to play the first movie fin then after that it will play 3/4 of the next movie then skip to the next movie. For every movie it skips to the time of play gets shorter. has anyone else experienced this?
Re: DLNA Server Skipping movies
nope.
this does not make much sense from the server point of view -- i believe the DLNA server has no concept of "running time" or "movie duration" ...
what client are you using?
i am thinking that perhaps the network might be flaky?
is there wireless involved between the client and the server?
is there questionable cabling?

Re: DLNA Server Skipping movies
My network is fine. It is what I do for a living. It may be the TV, I have a Samsung 32" LED Series 5 TV. I have streamed movies to it before though with the PS3 Media Server and it didn't behave like this. It just didn't play all my media with it. I have not tried it with the PS3 to see if it happening with that also. I will try that later to night and let you know.nope.

As for the network I am running a gig from a headless server to a gig switch which drops down too 100 meg at the TV and remains a gig at the PS3. No wireless involved. This was the same setup with the PS3 media server and it worked every time, even with the wireless.
EDIT: I was also thinking it was because of stale NFS file handles, but when I checked I did not have any. I will look into that more also
Re: DLNA Server Skipping movies
We use DLNA routinely with the PS3 and a WD TV Live box (for 1080p HD content in MKV that the PS3 cannot handle) to great success.
I remember we released some fixes in DLNA a couple of moths back for Samsung devices, maybe they need more fixes?

Just an Update
I believe my NFS clients were connecting with NFSv3 and not NFSv4. I have had the NFSv4 connected and running for 2 days now and it seems to be working correctly.
As for how I have this all hooked up I will try to explain,
Main Box Ubuntu Server Headless, 4Gig RAM, and E6500 Processor. (not sure on the processor model). inside this headless box I run Virtualbox headless.
I have three Virtual Machines in the main server.
1) Web Server, using Ubuntu headless with 512meg RAM (20 gig dynamic disk space)
2) Subsonic Server, Using Ubuntu headless server using 1024Meg RAM (10 gig dynamic space)
3) Amahi Server, Using the Fedora 12 install iso, running headless using 1024meg RAM (10 gig dynamic disk space)
The main server has 120 gig hard drive for the os and storage for the virtual machines, and an additional 1TB HD that holds the media and exports it via NFSv4 to the Subsonic and Amahi Virtual Machines.
Amahi DLNA is accessed via and device capable of playing DLNA, including Samsung LED TV, Samsung Vibrant Phones, Sony PS3, Windows 7 Desktop through XBMC. Internal network only.
Subsonic is accessed via web browser internal network and from the internet to play music and movies.
So far this has been very stable since everything is headless and resources required are minimal. The Amahi is the heaviest in resources and I would like to knock that down by setting up my router to do everything the Amahi DNS server is, but I doubt I will. I am lazy, rather just upgrade the machine.
