Squeezeboxserver update

Postby NeverSimple » Sat Sep 18, 2010 5:12 pm

Hello,

I've installed Squeezeboxserver 7.5.0 on Amahi as a one-click-install. For some time 7.5.1 is out which I would like to install because it contains some improvements for my Radio (the new r9009 firmware only works with 7.5.1, not with 7.5.0). On the webinterface from the Squeezeboxserver I could just click the update link but will this work or will it break something on Amahi (ie file locations)? I'm not sure if the 'Amahi version' is different in some aspect from the 'regular' one.

You could update on your own, but it would mean installing the newer RPM. I have updated the app to the latest version, so if you uninstall and reinstall, you will have the latest version.

Big thanks for the quick action. updating this way was painless; didn't even have to rescan my collection (probably because it's a minor update) and my Radio immediately updated to the latest firmware. Job done!

Now I don't want to be a PITA ;) , but this will happen again in the future. Do you mean I could just get the latest RPM and install it? I guess it wouldn't show up on the application tab, so I can't uninstall it the way I did now. There is probably a good reason why you package the Squeezeboxserver as an Amahi application and don't just link to the latest RPM, so will I run into (future) problems when i 'bypass' the application and install the RPM?

Again, thanks for the quick update,

Richard

Great! Glad to hear it worked for ya. We do link to the source, however we must update when there is a new version. No way to link to the latest as the file name changes with version.

If we did not package this as an app the way it is, you would have to do more manual work to get it going on your HDA. We try to keep up on updates, but don't receive notifications on this one unfortunately.

I would recommend you keep telling us when a new version is out until we can get our own notification from the vendor.

Thanks for being an Amahi supporter!
