Which Network media player

Postby johnno43 » Mon Aug 23, 2010 11:44 pm

Hi there everyone
Im a newbie on here and im currently building my new server ready to put Amahi on. Im going to use it for all the usual stuff like for back ups and print sharing, but my main aim is to stream all my movies, music and pics to my hdtv. So im also looking for a network media player. My question is though of all the ones ive looked at so far i.e WDTV live, Asus Oplay, Sumvision cyclone etc, none of them meet what im looking for. Does anyone have any suggestions on a player that will do all of the following.
1. support all the main formats
2. Support BBC iplayer (inc HD)
3. Support YouTube and other internet tv such as Revision 3

Some players support BBC iplayer but not youtube and some the other way round but i cant find any that do both plus all the features you would expect.
Im from the UK.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

We have the ASUS O!play RD1. It sees the shares and is able to see the DLNA server with no problems.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I've also been impressed with the wdtv live, but the inclusion of iplayer, youtube and other online content is fairly high on my list of priorities. In fairness wdtv is only missing iplayer, so that is the closest to my needs, but i just wondered if anyone knew of any players that did the lot or a way of getting all of these features onto something like the wdtv?

Thanks in advance once again

Hi All
After a bit of research i've decided to go with an Acer aspire Revo R3610. Im going to install XBMC on it and connect my Amahi server to that. At the moment though i cant decide whether to install the live cd of XBMC or put linux on first and then XBMC on top. Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences they can share on the subject.

If you are going that route, you should check out Element OS, it has XBMC pre-installed and many other cool features.
